My students' diversity and varying backgrounds is a gift. I want to use this gift to enhance their understanding of fiction and nonfiction texts. Scholastic Storyworks Jr. is the perfect companion for my students and their reading needs. I will use these magazines in my classroom in the small group setting to expose my readers to the features of fiction and nonfiction. My students will interact with the stories to build their vocabulary, fluency and comprehension.
I want my students to love the world of reading. My students will be able to engage with these magazines at school with me and then take them home to help build their own personal libraries with stories that they are familiar with. My hope is that my students will be exposed to genres they might not choose for themselves.
