Having these flexible seating options in the classroom will allow students to choose a reading space that is attractive to them. Kids love to be able to find that one area in the room that is comfy, cozy and gives them the privacy to really engage with the text. When students are able to focus on their reading and apply the strategies that they have been taught during reading time, their comprehension will increase substantially.
The ability to have flexible options for sitting with a good book or responding to a story they have read is an exciting prospect. Literacy time in my classroom consists of a whole group shared reading lesson and independent reading time. When students are sent off to practice their independent reading they have the option of moving about the room to locate a spot that is comfortable and quiet. I am really looking forward to making my classroom a comfortable and inviting place for my students to want to relax and read.
