Due to the diagnosis of autism, many students in my classroom are nonverbal and need augmentative or alternative ways to communicate. Some students have limited voice output and others have not yet developed the words to communicate yet. With the use of an iPad mini, they are able to use communication apps to communicate their wants and needs even though they may not be able to say the words right now. They can also use the device to answer questions in regards to curriculum based content as well as comment on things happening in the classroom. Everyone deserves to have their voice heard and with these devices, my students can be a part of the conversation!
