My students are in need of classroom calculators. My students will be learning how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. While it is essential for them to be able to do these calculations without a calculator, they are also expected to know how to use a calculator as a 21 century skill.
Calculator use can promote the higher-order thinking and reasoning needed for problem solving in our information and technology-based society. I am hoping I can provide a classroom set of this basic tool. As a low income Title 1 school, many of our students cannot afford to purchase a calculator. Providing a class set of calculators will allow the equity for all students to have access to this necessary tool.
