My students are 25 of the sweetest people you will ever meet. They live in extreme poverty and deal with more in one day than most of us will ever deal with our whole lives. Many are being raised by grandparents, aunts, or other family members because their parents are incarcerated. Others are being raised by family friends because their parents have left them. The majority of my students do not have a male role model in their lives. Parents and guardians are struggling to meet their children's basic needs. Despite all this, my students are always smiling. They love coming to school and love learning. They are appreciative of everything given to them.
