Our curriculum includes many opportunities for students to go beyond the text to explore their interests in depth. Unfortunately, a school of over 300 students only has 25 computers for student use. This means that many times students can't access them when they need to.
Having laptops in the classroom will allow my students both to delve deeper into the material we are learning in class and to practice skills they will need to succeed in the new economy. Many of my students still struggle to type because they have no consistent access to technology. They need these skills to thrive in the 21st century and their parents don't have the means to provide it at home.
Laptops in the classroom will also allow me to differentiate my instruction based on interest and ability. I can challenge my highest level students with extra enrichment and help my lowest level students to practice their skills.
