My school is made up of 97% Hispanic students. We have 98% free/reduced lunch. They are 6th generational poverty and although most of them speak both English and Spanish, the majority of their parents do not. Most of their parents speak only Spanish, which makes communication difficult. The students at my school are very sweet and hard working however, having Spanish as their first language and living in high poverty has put these children at a high risk for not being successful as they go through school and graduate. My school has a wonderful supportive community with several outside agencies coming in to help both the parents and the students to hopefully become more successful in the future.
