The materials I am requesting will be used with K-5 learners on the autism spectrum and with language learning disabilities. Many of my students have strong word decoding and memorization skills but are lagging behind their peers in the comprehension of what they read and hear and oral expression.
My students are reluctant to participate in class discussions, share their own ideas and opinions, and volunteer to answer questions due to their lagging expressive communication skills.
My school district provides wonderful access to books and text resources, but my specific learners on the autism spectrum require a variety of game-like teaching resources with a high level of visual structure to motivate them and keep their learning activities engaging. The resources selected also offer a social interactive element that helps my learners with autism also build peer interaction skills.
