I teach at a school that is almost 100% free and reduced lunch. As a result of poverty, the students face challenges both in school and outside of school, but we are climbing a mountain to and through college. I tell my high schoolers on a daily basis that failure is not an option and that we will do whatever it takes to ensure that they are prepared for their future college and career.
Though the students have tons of potential, the ACT average at my school is a 15 and the attendance rates are very low. The students are not always comfortable asking for help and as a result, continue to not meet their full potential. Through this project, I hope to create a safe tutoring place where students are able to come and get the help that they need to improve their grades and test scores.
