My project is designed to change the experience for developing readers. In the past the reading teacher came to the classroom and left with a group of children. Sometimes they assigned fancy names to reading groups, like the Dolphins and Turtles but everyone knew which groups were the advanced readers and which groups weren't. Many times this group left the classroom feeling dejected. My goal is to provide an environment that motivates and engages the learner.
By redesigning the learning space where students receive extra support, we can change the narrative and experience of a developing learner.
Your donation will create an inviting space where students can receive academic support in creative ways and where learning looks different. Students will engage in hands-on learning, group projects, and multisensory experiences. The materials selected will allow for innovative learning spaces and materials students can utilize. Kindergartners will practice forming their letters using sensory bins. 1st graders will create songs with friends to help them remember high frequency words on the lounge couch. 2nd graders will use magnetic shapes to build a problem solving tool helping fairy tale characters solve a problem.
