My campus is over 30% immigrant, with the majority coming from Africa and The Middle East. Our top languages are Arabic and Swahili. I truly have the world in my class! My students do not have easy access to the public library and they don't have books in their home. Many of my students have never read a book with characters that look like them or have similar experiences as them. I want my students to see themselves and others in the books they read. I want them to feel empowered to share their story and to be proud of who they are and where they came from!
