My students are 3rd graders, eager to become independently learners with guidance from me, their teacher. They enjoy working collaboratively with peers, independently, and in both large and small groups with their teacher. But their 3rd grade bodies still need to have the chance to move and wiggle. It is not uncommon to walk into my classroom and see students spread out on the floor, cuddled up on a couch or comfy chair, sitting with a group on a rug, rolling across floor in mobile chairs, or working with me in small groups at a table or on the floor.
Students have choices on where to work. They can move to a place that is comfortable to work on an independent iPad project then move to a new learning space that allows for more collaboration. The goal of my classroom room arrangement is to create various learning spaces for students to have choices where to work. Along with this, there needs to be space for students to move and wiggle, not only for kids with ADHD but all kids.
