I teach mathematics at a school where there is a high percentage of underprivileged students. I would like them all to have the same advantage when it comes to math class. Having calculators available that they don't have to purchase on their own will go a long way to helping them understand and learn vital problem-solving and critical thinking skills. They can feel success and know that they have the same opportunities as everyone else. This will also help build their self-worth to know that they can do 'hard' things without feeling like they are less than anyone else.
