Students will use the PVC pipe, and fittings, to build four vertical towers for growing garden items. The "hole saw" will cut holes into the pipe, creating places for plants. Each pipe will then be placed into a planter and using their gloves will be filled with soil and plants.
Next, they will construct the hydroponic system using the kit to learn a way of growing food without soil.
While building their systems they will discuss healthy and unhealthy food options. Using what they have learned they will decide what plants to place in each growing system. For example, strawberries will grow in either but will harvest easier from the vertical towers.
