When you spend time in our classroom, you will see students reading, discussing reading, and thinking about reading. We talk about how reading is a skill...one that is practiced and one that they can get better at. They are learning that reading affects every aspect of life and that a life-long reader is a life-long learner.
I encourage students to read at home at least twenty minutes a night. As they find themselves becoming hooked on certain authors and genres, it is exciting to see them hoping that they will get extra time at school to read....which, of course, we give them every day.
The Bluebonnet books that I have ordered, are great for small-group reading. I hope to create groups of 4 students and have them read in a literature circle atmosphere, where they can discuss what they are learning as they read along.
The other books I have ordered are high-interest novels that seem to really be popular among my kids.
