Every Friday, the scent of freshly popped popcorn floods the hallway on the second floor of Crivitz Elementary/Middle School. For the past four years, Popcorn Fridays have become iconic. Students look forward to ordering their bag of popcorn and having it delivered by the sixth grade students.
All proceeds are given directly back to the students. From scholarships to Camp Bird to supplies for Science STEAM projects, monies raised from popcorn sales will benefit past, present, and future sixth grade students.
Specific examples of projects include supplies to construct solar ovens, egg drop capsules, roller coasters, and bowling fees when learning about Newton's Laws of motion. This year, we implemented "The Kindness Cart," where students walked around the school with treats for teachers. Books have been purchased for the classroom.
Most importantly, money raised is used for the five day learning experience at Camp Bird each year. First, scholarships are given to students unable to pay the tuition fee. Additionally, we are able to provide a t-shirt to each student to wear out at Camp Bird, promoting the comeradery and teamwork essential for our week. Kids proudly wear these t-shirts for years to come after.
