My students have special needs and they range from grades 1-3. They are students that do not have the language acquisition to be successful in the regular classroom setting. They are eager to learn and daily they show academic progress. But I would like to help build the confidence of my students to create stories that they will be proud of. I would like to see them write simple sentences with simple illustrations but also be confident to share their story with peers. My students are diagnosed as having Autism, Emotional Disturbance and some Learning Disabilities. The school that I work for has a high poverty rate and most students are free or reduced lunch. The students that I work with have vocabulary deficits and it would be nice to expose students to more language through books so that they can increase their language abilities in order to create and express a story.
