My school a large and diverse population, and the students are from different parts of the city, different cultural backgrounds, and many other different aspects. With limited funding, not every student can be well served or provided opportunity to develop their academic skills. My students are motivated and interested in math. However, we do not have enough resources to support our students to help their interests grow even further. Most of the math concepts are very abstract, and sometimes students have a hard time to visualize the situation or to make connection. Manipulatives will help resolve the issue and may bring unexpected benefits, like high level of engagement.
