When I first started implementing Flexible Seating in my First Grade classroom, I found the biggest challenge to be storage of students' supplies. By eliminating the traditional student desk, I gained tons of access to different learning seats for different learning styles, but lost all of the space for my students to store their belongings. My kids have a crayon box, tablet, headphones, math folder, writing spiral and morning journal to store and need to have easy access to these materials throughout their learning day.
By introducing this particular storage shelf and drawers into our classroom environment I am phasing out the need for multiple supplies stored in different areas throughout my classroom and give my students a simple, "one stop shop" approach to getting their supplies.
I believe in the idea that my physical classroom is an integral part of my teaching style and I'd like for it to better reflect my need to have a clean, organized and inviting space to learn and grow. I feel that these materials will help me to reach that goal.
