I teach two extreme group of students - two classes of high-level honors with incredible IQs and two classes of students with disabilities combined with English-language learners. This latter set of classes includes students who come from extreme situations at home, are mostly living below the poverty line, and depend on the school to provide their breakfast and lunch, sometimes their only meals of the day. Many of these students are African-Americans diagnosed with ADD, and they struggle to stay focused on any task, no matter how seemingly simple it is. When using technology, they can become especially frustrated when they cannot hear the stories and poems we are listening to, or are distracted by too much ambient noise while creating presentations or writing papers. Every single student I teach has a good heart and is willing to try their best. However, they need any and all help I can give them to achieve their best.
