My students are 4th and 5th graders, full of curiosity and excited energy. These students are at a pivotal point in their grade school journey as they have started making the transition from learning to read to reading to learn. Our school is located in a city in Oklahoma. We are a Title I school, which means that more than 50% of the students are on free and reduced price lunches due to economic hardships. A majority of our students are primarily English Language Learners. Many of the students do not have the opportunity to speak or get gain additional support in learning English at home.
