Of course I'm biased to my students and school in general. I'm blessed to work in the same small town I grew up in and parents still live in as well. My students are 2nd and 3rd graders with huge hearts and great minds! They come to me as beginning readers, some less than others, and need to be independently reading to take the state exam by the end of the year. It's truly a wonderful time, just before adolescence yet they're of their own mind and ideas. Our school has a strong program of "Community of Caring" emphasizing community, family, trust, respect, and caring where students are rewarded with "pink slips" for monthly school store shopping opportunities. Our student population is around 70% economically disadvantaged, 20% of our students have disabilities, and 15% are EL learners. Many do not have access to technology at home and lack the opportunities to obtain such tools. My students love school and the outdoors, being as we live in the Redwoods of northern California.
