I am changing my classroom to a blended model and want to divide the classroom into zones for greater collaboration and interest. There will be an area set up with seating for students to work on the computers and review lectures and videos. Another area will be for labs where the students can collaborate directly on the tables with dry erase painted table tops and markers. My students need markers, dry erase brush-on kits and bean bag chairs to create a relaxing place to work on typing virtual lab reports and view pre-taped lessons to review at their own pace to ensure understanding.
The classroom will have areas where active collaboration takes place as well as quiet contemplation zones. My classroom will have three zones. One zone will have the bean bag seats where students can use classroom iPads to watch or review lectures, one zone will have walls painted with chalk board paint so they can collaborate with other students, and the last area will have tables painted with dry erase paint so the can work together on labs and projects. Pictures of the work on the walls and tables will be placed in each student's digital files.
It is my goal to be almost completely paperless. Students will be given time to learn at their own pace as well as projects for enrichment. The blended model will allow students who have been absent to get information they were not there for and still meet the same expectations as all other students. Students who are having difficulty understanding will be able to review lessons repeatedly.
