Our students love spending time outside, and learning from their surroundings. Each year we visit a nearby charter school which focuses on environmental education, and our students LOVE it. We would like to bring these same elements to their environment by giving them access to raised garden beds, allowing them to grow their own vegetables.
The city our students live in is considered a "food desert", as the only access to food is either fast food restaurants, or local gas stations/dollar stores. By bringing awareness to urban gardening, we can educate our students how to grow their own healthy foods, improving their nutritional awareness.
We are requesting raised garden beds, as well as vegetable seeds to help us get started.
