The school I teach at is in a high poverty area. Students are 95+% free or reduced lunches. Unfortunately, most come to kindergarten with little guidance and readiness skills they need to start school. They also don't have the resources at home to learn at the pace of their peers in non-poverty areas. They are eager to learn though! It is obvious when they start school that they are hungry for learning and just need the jump start. They love the consistency of their school day, knowing what to expect and knowing they are in a safe and happy environment where everyone wants the best for them. I am proud to say that I teach at a school with a great group of people that have such commitment to working with families in need.
