My students absolutely love learning through books. Books take them to places they may not every have the opportunity of experiencing in real life.
My students attend a high poverty public school in Montana. Many of them do not have the opportunity to listen to someone read to them outside of the school setting. My struggling readers tend to shy away from reading on their own and until they gain confidence in their reading abilities, they do much of their learning through listening.
