My scholars' academic needs are intense. Approximately 80% of my scholars enter 8th grade below grade level in reading, and about 50% of my scholars are more than two grade levels behind. Kindles offer the chance to create dynamic, engaging and diverse literacy instruction for my scholars.
From supported reading (with Kindle's highlighting and note-taking features, along with access to audiobooks) to writing and typing practice, to literacy apps and websites, my scholars will have access to individualized activities that meet their diverse needs.
We will use our Kindles during small group rotations, so when scholars are not receiving intensive interventions from a teacher, they are receiving differentiated instruction tailored to their literacy needs. This allows for exponential growth over the course of the year. Last year, many of my scholars grew more than a full grade level in reading, and I am certain this technology will provide even greater gains for my readers.
