My students are amazing! Though many other teachers ask me "How do you do it?" on a regular basis, I couldn't imagine working with another population. A BD (behavioral disabilities) classroom is one that appears chaotic to most, but the consistent movement of students to engage them is the most beneficial way to help them achieve. They are 2nd-4th grade students living in a high-poverty town. They know what behaviors they need to work on, but don't quite know how to always get there. They're fidgity and talkative and easily distracted, but they are also sweet, kind, and caring. They are always asking for hugs and just want to be accepted and make the teachers and their families proud. The elementary school I teach in teaches acceptance every day by having integrated so many types of special education (i.e. autism, students with multiple disabilities, cognitive impairments, physical handicaps, learning disabilities, and of course my behavioral disabilities) all under one roof.
