A full one-third of my class has "focusing issues." (And I don't mean they need glasses!) It is hard for them to stay engaged long enough to get the practice they need with reading and writing skills. Most of the class is very active and learn best when they can manipulate things. They also focus better when working directly in front of them, rather than moving their eyes from their desk to the board and back.
My school, however, is an alternative school which emphasizes teacher-led instruction with students working at their desks most of the day. My students need alternatives, and individualized practice using iPad technology will help give them what they need in our conservative instructional model.
