The purpose of my project is to allow the students to use their problem solving and creative skills to produce stories and ideas, using magnetic poetry, in order to understand how fluid language can be.
Whether it is writing a haiku or a sonnet, the magnetic poetry will allow them to see the process authors undergo as they too have the opportunity to create stories.
In my classroom, students are always asked to read texts written by published authors and either conduct a rhetorical analysis or a literary analysis; write an argument or annotate a piece. Often they are reluctant or bewildered about how to proceed because they don't have the right words, yet they are always on their phones tweeting or texting which comes quite naturally to them. The magnetic poetry provides with the words, and their creativity will be their guide.
