Our campus is a Title One school which educates students in grades Kindergarten through Sixth. We currently have 758 students enrolled and over 60 percent of our student are economically disadvantaged, which means that they are on free or reduced lunch. I have the opportunity to visit with each classroom every month during guidance lessons and see 50 plus students every month for individual or group counseling sessions. Most of the students that I see come from extended families or single parent homes and have poor behavior management skills. There are also quite a few students who have experienced a loss or a change and have a difficult time expressing their feelings in an appropriate manner and/or lack appropriate coping skills.
