I teach a 5th grade gate cluster. My scholars are always making connections from the classroom to the real world. They love real life adventures and stories. What better way to engage their love of learning about the world, than with stories straight from today's headlines? My scholars gain greater understanding when they can connect their learning to their own lives. Scholastic News gives them this opportunity. It is both fun and engaging while keeping the skills standards based. Social studies and science based non-fiction text is exactly what they need and enjoy.
