I have twenty-one diverse, capable, energetic first graders. Our classroom currently has one iPad. My students are highly motivated to write quality stories that can be turned into iBooks or explain their thinking in apps such as Show Me, Sock Puppet, Tellagami and Pic Collage. Motivation is not the problem; it's the lack of tools needed to feed their desire to collaborate, design and inquire.
The addition of two iPads with cases will allow me to better target differentiated instruction for those students who are struggling with reading/math concepts. These iPads will also allow me to enrich curriculum by providing ways for students to demonstrate their thinking "outside the box".
Research shows that the use of iPads raises student motivation, offers deep student engagement and matches the needs of individual students. This technology provides students a safe, non-threatening environment and allows them to work at their own pace.
