Due to Covid, many of my students returned to school anxious and fearful. They do not understand why parents and teachers are concerned about the pandemic. I teach five students with autism. They all have difficulty with sensory overload and anxiety. I want to create a calm area where they can retreat when they become anxious and overstimulated. With the sensory items, they can learn how to self-soothe and become less anxious at school. They will be able to utilize the quiet area and sensory items at the beginning of sensory overload instead of waiting until they are in a full-blown meltdown. Catching sensory overload early is essential.
The donations to this project will help to improve my students' sense of well being and calmness so they can attend to instruction better.
