Placing printed text in the hands of my scholars is imperative as we continue to find ourselves in an unknown situation. Seeing my students crave for the feel of pages at their fingertips rather than peering at pages on a screen inspired me to create a classroom library in which they can immerse themselves.
As Rudine Sims Bishop describes, a book can be a window/door or mirror into known or unknown worlds. With this project, I hope to provide my students with printed texts in which the stories and topics inspire and support their love of learning. My hopes is to help my scholars, who have had an entire year of sitting in front of digital devices, to look up from their screens and feel the stories come to life at their fingertips.
