I teach kindergarten in a diverse school. I like to teach my students using a balanced literacy program. A rug affords me the opportunity to work with my class in whole groups as I teach a mini-lesson and in small groups when students go back to their own seats to work independently. Also, at center time, children can actively engage in educational learning centers on the rug instead of on the floor.
