My students are part of a special education program at our school. As there teacher I try to give them opportunities to explore new things and learn about them.
We were talking about animals coming out of hibernation when we found our snake. The snake was wounded but is doing great. The kids love to touch her, watch her and tell their friends about her. They have been able to teach others about our green snake and it makes them feel very important.
I have students from kindergarten to 5th grade, so the experience of this has been great for them all. I see them out and the first thing they say is "mom, she is the one that is keeping our snake". I love to see their excitement and want to do all I can to feed it as they learn and grow.
