Project-based learning aligned with our common core standards have engaged 4th graders in my classroom. Common core reading and writing about disasters, extended to writing, performing, editing and sharing news reports in IMovie. While reading a novel about a boy who tries to make money by selling comics in school, we created comics to sequence the story, read Newsela articles about real-life young entrepreneurs, saw some on Shark Tank, then created prototypes of our own products, and prepared Google slides presentations with a sales pitch, materials and labor costs based on research, allowed for profit, determined prices, and created logos in Google Draw. Students collaborated in groups, or worked alone, but all were engaged in using technology, creativity, math, speaking, listening, reading, writing, while learning real-life business concepts. Title 1 school, English language learners, and Special Education.
