At some point in each day some student says something that just makes me stop and think, "This kid is going to do something amazing!" Our community is small enough that I will be able to see what they are doing with their lives down the road.
What scares me is that we are in a low-income, rural area. Most of our students are considered at- risk and many don't have any family members who have ever gone to college. I see the potential in their lives but I worry about the road blocks they will encounter. My students make me think with the questions they ask, they make me laugh with their quick wit and quirky antics. Sometimes they bring tears to my eyes with their honesty. I only get them for a year, so I want give them everything I can.
