My students are lively teens from Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Their lives are challenging and their dreams are big. Our school is a small loving community that believes in restorative justice, experiential learning, and progressive education. Most of my students are Black and Latino and are watching their neighborhood being taken over by gentrification. They have a strong sense of justice and I teach literacy through looking at different social justice issues that impact their lives such as racism, sexism, bullying, police brutality, and classism. My student are agents of change and encouraged to use the power of words to help transform the world.
