My elementary students attend school in the inner city and come from a variety of economic backgrounds and cultures. Many students live in conditions of poverty, while some come from privileged households. Our school is truly a melting pot. Half of the students are enrolled in a Japanese bilingual program, and many other home languages are also spoken.
