I work in a NYC public school and provide speech and language services to middle school students. My students suffer from a variety of disorders including autism, learning disabilities, mental retardation, motor disorders, and poor articulation. One of the best things I ever did was purchase an Ipad. The students love using technology and it is extremely motivating for all of them. I bought that Ipad after saving for a long time and have spent over $200 on apps alone to use with my students based on their individual needs. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to purchase another one because I am in the process of rebuilding my home. My students have really benefited from using this technology everyday and miss having a variety of learning experiences at their finger tips. I have a few students who are unable to communicate and this has allowed them to participate with their peers which increases their self esteem. They are able to choose pictures and string them together into spoken language
