My five and six year old students are in Kindergarten. They attend a moderately impoverished school in Colorado. I have 24 students in my classroom and their needs are greatly varied. Some are currently reading but the majority are emerging into reading. I also have some special needs students as well as English Language Learners who are from Vietnam. My students are high energy learners who love to take on a new challenge. They like to be kept busy and are often seen with picture books in their hands, when their tasks are complete. Unfortunately, the picture books are too hard for them to read. This year we have had an influx of Kindergarteners at our school that one and a half more classes were added. The school's literacy closet is unable to accomodate the 100 Kindergarten students. Not only do the students like to have books on their levels in the classroom but they like to take books home to share with their parents and be successful.
