The balance ball chairs and interlocking mats will provide opportunities for movement and mindfulness throughout the school day. Because my students come from many different backgrounds providing each with their own water bottle will eliminate the have and have nots in my class. The water bottles will give each student access to water and much needed brain hydration when they need it without disrupting their work.
Fourth graders need to move throughout the day, otherwise for many they become distracted and unable to learn. The materials I have requested will allow opportunities for student movement. The ball chairs will allow students to move as needed at their desks while still participating in class. The interlocking mats will replace our classroom rug area and become a place not just to sit but a welcoming spot to practice short mindfulness exercises.
These items will provide a wonderful learning environment for my students as well as decrease behavioral problems due to sitting in hard unforgiving chairs.
