I have 2 donated pianos in my classroom and the students love getting a turn on them. Unfortunately, the students currently take turns playing a tune, after they have practiced on a keyboard printed on a piece of paper. The process is very slow. They are determined though, and their passion has led me to ask for this funding. I believe instead of a two-week unit on piano, I could teach students year long. I have electrical issues in my classroom. I can’t add outlets for standard electric pianos. So I’m asking for MIDI keyboard controllers that can plug into the students’ individual Chromebook. Not only can they practice beginning piano skills, but we can start to explore song writing, and ensemble playing. My hope is to give a solid foundation to students, let them fall in love with creating music, and maybe they will find a way to keep learning the piano after they have left my classroom.
