I teach 35 special education students reading each day. I directly assist approximately 50 students. They are 6th and 7th graders. Our school district is located in a highly diverse and transient location. We are a county seat that provides services for low income/no income families. We also have four tribal offices within the city limits. The city has numerous public and tribal housing additions and apartments. Our middle school is the only middle school in our district with an average enrollment of 800 students.
We serve 23 American Indian tribes with a student population of 28.4% Native American, 4% Hispanic, and 10% African American. 17% of the population is classified as Special Education. 70% of students receive free and reduced lunches. The total of 75.3% of the students attending our school are considered economically disadvantaged.
