I teach a class of 24 active 2nd graders. They are a diverse group in home language, race, socio-economic level, and special needs. They are all at very different stages of learning the basics of reading writing and math. Some have mastered many of the basic skills taught in kindergarten and first grade, while others are struggling and need extra help to reach grade level standards. I don't want any of my students to get left behind. There is nothing that turns kids off to learning faster than a boring classroom. I want my classroom to be fun and interactive. The more the students are enjoying themselves, the less they worry about how challenging the concepts are. I want to integrate writing, math, art, science and technology to help students make meaningful connections in their learning.
