Thank you for taking the time to consider my request. I teach 7th grade Reading at an at-risk middle school in Las Vegas, Nevada. Most of my students are reluctant, struggling readers. It is so difficult to get them to admit they read or like books. Many of my students admit they have never been to a public library or tell me they have no books of their own at home. I am determined, though, to bring my passion for literature into the classroom.
For the past two years, I have taught an in-depth unit about the Holocaust and Anne Frank. The students were captivated with learning about Anne Frank. We did read the play version of "The Diary of Anne Frank," which I found in an outdated textbook. We have class sets of novels available, but nothing that even comes close to this autobiography.
