I teach at an Alternative School in Oklahoma. In the past, my students have struggled with the traditional school setting. Many of the students are self sufficient, caring for family members or children of their own, or overcoming a difficult situation that put them behind in earning credits for graduation. The majority of the students failed in the traditional setting due to poor attendance but are required to agree to an contract concerning attendance and grades before being admitted to the school. The students range in grade level from 9th to 12th grades.
