My students are the most curious, intriguing, motivated learners I have taught in a while. They are hungry for the information I have to provide, but we do not have the means to give it to them. Since our standards have changed for the curriculum, we are expected to meet new challenges for literacy. However, the funds are just not present. We are such a large school, and the need for books is dire. I cannot expect to have my students pay for the books themselves when most are on free or reduced lunch. I want them to learn to treasure their education, and having others share that love with them gives them hope. They are in desperate need for them to be opened up to a world bigger than their own.
